Volunteer position are available in all areas of the Museum, including gallery guides, visitor services, display construction, conservation, research and administration. Our volunteers are engaged in all areas of Museum operations and have a diversity of skills. Volunteers become part of the Kissing Point Military Foundation are allocated positions in consultation with the Museum Manager.  Allocation of roles and responsibilities is based on your interests, individual knowledge, skills, experience and availability.


If you wish to volunteer please contact the Museum, or better still visit and see what we do. You will be asked to complete a Volunteer Application Form and Volunteer Agreement. Applications will be reviewed by Museum staff, and applicants will be notified when suitable volunteer positions become available.

All prospective volunteers will be interviewed prior to placement. The interview is a chance for us to learn about you, your interests and to discuss volunteer opportunities within the Museum. Standard volunteer recruitment reference checks will be made after the interview. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the interview process.

Successful applicants will have their volunteer position and role approved by the Museum Manager. Each volunteer’s role and duties will be outlined in a Volunteer Duty Statement approved by both the volunteer and the Manager.


All volunteers must complete an induction and mandatory training as soon as practicable. The induction will be conducted by Museum training staff. Annual mandatory training must be undertaken by all volunteers and covers modules, such as equity and diversity, workplace health and safety, and security.

There are opportunities to nominate for additional training including the Introduction to Museum Practice and Conservation courses sponsored by the Australian Army History Unit.
